If you’ve ever considered building or renovating a home, you know better than most people how many organizations there are that expect you to follow certain rules when it comes to your own home. One type of organization that has a significant impact on certain neighborhoods is a Homeowners’ Association, or, HOA. Depending on a number of factors, including your personal viewpoint, organizations like these can either aid in driving the improvement of a neighborhood and increasing property values, or they can seem like a group of arbitrary lawmakers.
In either case, the fact remains the same that an HOA does exert a certain amount of power over the homes in its’ jurisdiction. For that reason, it would be a good idea to do some homework to determine if an HOA exists for a property you’re considering for purchase, and if so, whether or not it’s a good one for your needs.
