According to some sources, there were over 460,000 property crimes in Florida last year. This can be a pretty scary statistic, but the fact is that there are steps that homeowners can take to help prevent those types of crimes from happening to their property. This is especially important for owners of rental properties. Besides the moral imperative that comes with keeping the property safe, there’s also the fact that good tenants are hard to find.
Keeping a rental property secure is essentially the same as keeping your own house secure. Take a look at the property as if you were the one living there. Is there adequate exterior lighting? Could you install motion sensors? Are all of the door and window locks in good working order? Is it possible to add security signage? Do your tenants know who their neighbors are, so that they can identify any unusual visitors to the neighborhood?
